S•O•S (Scheduled Oil Sampling)

What is it? Regular laboratory analysis of your engine’s oil, as well as the fluids from other components like hydraulics, transmission, final drive and cooling system.

Why is it important? Analyzing fluids on a regular basis gives you insight into the internal condition of critical (and most expensive to fix) components. Small problems are kept from growing into big ones. Repairs can often be forecast and planned.

How do you take samples? There are two methods: A pressurized or “live” system that uses a sampling access point located on the engine, and regular sampling that uses a “vampire gun” to extract oil from the engine or other compartment while the machine/ engine is off. Taking samples is fast and easy. Samples are taken at 250 and 500 hr service intervals, depending on compartment.
The oil flows into a small sample container (photo at left), which is then sealed up and mailed to us in the provided mailing tube.
Once we receive your sample, we will process it in 24 hours or less. If there are impending problems, we will call you immediately. If not, we will send you a detailed report of your oil’s condition along with our interpretation of the data. Unlike other oil analysis providers, our ability to give you meaningful, actionable information based on the analysis data is unmatched.

Are there any other lab services I can use?
PQ Index: provides additional detection of iron particles, usually present when failures are about to occur.

Particle count: another level of detection that is particularly useful for transmissions and final drives.
Coolant analysis: helps keep your coolant working as it should. Many engine problems can be traced back to cooling system problems.

Fuel analysis: useful when you change fuels suppliers, or suspect fuel problems.

Cat Care

What is it? At specified intervals, Cat Care sends you a box that contains a Scheduled Oil Sample kit (see information above), Cat filters, and all the other items you need to perform scheduled preventive maintenance.

Why is it important? Performing scheduled maintenance on your Cat machine or engine is critical. Cat Care helps make it easier because we send you exactly what you need, when you need it. You don’t need to worry about keeping excess inventory on hand. And you also don’t need to worry about what to order each time – we keep track.

How much does it cost? There’s no additional cost. The cost is the same (or less) than if you purchased all the items separately. The overall cost will vary depending on the machine/engine you have, and what you choose to include in the package. For example, you can add other items to tailor Cat Care to your specific operation, such as Corrosion Inhibitor, Cat Oils, Replacement Breathers, and Cat Primary/Secondary Air Filters.
